The bobbin leg is an old French trick — turned wood stacked into a run of soft spheres — and we’ve always had a weakness for it. Here it’s done in dark chestnut mahogany, the spheres full and almost edible, the seat a simple disc resting on top. It’s small, but it carries real presence.
It’s properly made, too: FSC-certified solid mahogany, levelers underneath for floors that aren’t quite true, and a 300-pound capacity that rather belies its seven-pound frame. Thirteen inches in every direction — a tidy little cube of a thing.
We rarely use a stool as a stool. This one is a side table beside a reading chair, a perch for a stack of books, a plant on a landing, a low surface by the bath. It moves with one hand and looks like it was always there, wherever it lands.
